Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my website.

My name is Nancy Nieves Dreith, I live in North Carolina.  My family and I experience beautiful weather all year round, even in winter.  The winters are mild and invigorating.  The summers are hot, but productive. The North Carolina light is perfect to paint by all year round.

I was born and raised in New York City, the upper Westside. My parents were born in Puerto Rico, they moved to New York in the late fifties. They have both since passed.  My father died from a heart attack at the age of fifty-four and my mother died of cancer at the age of fifty-nine. They were both wonderful and very supportive parents. I continue to have that support every day with my fantastic husband Mike and our two very fury kids, Hunter and Juno, Siberian Huskies. They inspire me every day!

I am an abstract painter who graduated from Parsons the New School for Design with a B.F.A. My concentration was painting with Harvey Quaytman, Elizabeth Murray, Larry Rivers, Stuart M. Diamond, and so many more professional and outstanding artists living in the New York State area.

I did my graduate studies at Hunter College, receiving an M.F.A in 1985. I studied with Robert Morris, Alice Aycock, Susan Peterson, John Mason, Rosalind Krauss, and so many more talented individuals. Their persistence and dedication was inspiring.

During my undergraduate studies I entered an exchange program, allowing me to travel to England and study at Winchester School of Art. Studying abroad was an experience I will never forget, it was eye opening and enriching.  I saw many museums and many historic sites when I lived in England.  After my studies, I traveled throughout Europe, visiting Holland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland and Greece. I learned a great deal visiting these places, storing images and inspiration to last a life time.

As a painter I am inspired by my past and surroundings. North Carolina is very beautiful and provides the kind of scenery I need to create my landscape paintings, watercolors, drawings, monotypes, etchings, aquatints and mezzotints.

I create art almost every day, I have devoted my entire life to my work.  Studying the masters, the Impressionists, the Post-Impressionists, the Cubists, the Surrealists and the Abstract Expressionists enabled me to understand abstraction and apply it to my work.  So many artists and art movements have made me the artist I am today.
